Default Noise coming from exaust.

I am asking for a friend here. His Rubicon's exaust makes a pinging noise when its cold then goes away once its warmed up. I am thinking maybe his spark arrester is dirty but not sure. Anyone have this probleme.

I am just taking a wild guess here because of the limited information. It could be a loose baffle in the exhaust system and rattles when cold and swells up when it gets hot and stops rattling.

Mochacon, not sure about yours, but would have to agree with Harley.

Midsouth, look at where the shield goes next to the frame. Start it up and watch it as it reaches operating temperature. Mine did that when it expanded. Sounded like a rock rattling in the shield. loosen the clamps, rotate the shield and re-tighten, if this turns out to be your problem.

Good one! Actualy! it sounds kinda like a mouse inside of his exaust. Its definitly not the heat sheild. I put my hand over the exaust to see if it would make a difference and it stopped but started as soon as I took my hand off. I would like to take the exaust end off but scared to break the bolts.

Just spray some wd40 on the bolts. They come out pretty easy, just be careful putting them back in. They strip pretty easy.

Hey Guys, We finally found the source of the noise on my new Rincon. It's the exhaust! More specifically, it's either a loose heat shield on the exhaust or the baffles inside the muffler are loose! It's a common and known problem! Here's how you can verify if the exhaust is causing the vibration and noise on your machine:
With the machine cold and turned OFF, tap with the palm of your hand on the exhaust where it comes out of the head of the engine. Also, tap on the muffler which is in the left rear wheel well. If you hear ANY vibration or noise when you knock on the pipe or muffler, you've verified that it is coming from the exhaust. It is a problem that IS covered by Honda warranty if your machine is still in warranty. If your machine is not in warranty, then you will need to take the exhaust and muffler off of the machine at which time you will be able to specifically determine if the noise is coming from the heat shield or from the baffle inside the muffler. This noise easily fools a lot of people because it is amplified when you are using more power; such as during acceleration or going up a hill. It sounds somewhat like a knock, but also has a metalic 'tink' to it because, each time the cylinder exhausts, it literally sends a 'pop' or burst of exhaust into the pipe. Since it occurs with every revolution of the piston, it is commonly mistaken as noisy valves, noisy decompression valve, low-octane knocking, etc. However, it's actually the exhaust which is knocking around loose parts on the exhaust pipe and/or muffler. At any rate, it IS a problem and is NOT normal. It may require that you take the exhaust pipe and muffler off of your Rincon to find out exactly where on the exhaust it is. But, once you find it, your Rincon will pur like a kitten - just as all other Honda ATV's do!
Good Luck!
Kent
