Default Riding in Kitzmiller, MD - Western Maryland (Garrett County)

Just wondering if any of you guys (girls included) have ever ridden or heard about a riding area in Kitzmiller, MD? Supposedly, the property owner of this riding area sells yearly memberships for $65. After signing a bunch of waivers and paying the guy, he gives you a key and you're set for riding there for a full year whenever you wish to do so. I'm thinking about joining this Saturday and my buddy who just bought a 680 Rincon and a few of his friends already joined last weekend. Interested to hear if it is worth the money and has cool trails; challenging, variety, marked and mapped, etc. Let me know and thanks for any info you can provide!

Sounds interesting. Please let me know what you think. How big? Any more memberships? Can you bring guests or does everyone have to pay $65 for the year. I imagine if I had the key, I would be tempted to let a bunch of my buddies in with me. : )

Thanks!

Bryan05,

Supposedly there are 3000 acres and it's also the North Hills motocross track and riding area. They have cross country races as well (ATV and dirt bike) throughout the year and some 80 year old man manages the property and memberships. I think a retired MD State Police officer helps "police" the activities but it's pretty much pay your dues, show up at your leasure and figure out the trail set-up. Supposedly a lot of locals ride there. I'm going to check it out this Saturday so I'll have more info after the weekend. I do some skiing outside of Dillsburg at Round Top. One of my favorite local ski areas. Any riding areas up in your neck of the woods?

Somebody actually knows where Dillsburg is? I'm about 4 miles from Roundtop.

nothing that good to ride around here, about 35 miles of trails near Gettysburg at Michaux State forest that's cool to at least ride once.

A couple more hours up I-81 north and there is Paragon Adventure park. www.paragonap.com and Tower City www.tctri.org.

Have you been to The Cove near Winchester, VA. Michaux is similar riding (a lot of rocks), but it is free.

Bryan05 you need to start riin with my bunch! We get into some serious riding and you will never see the same trails in a day with us. We did a 70 mile round trip ride back in the beginning of February hitting some awesome slates, we have a spot off route 40 right at the summit of Chalk HIll If you ever heard of that area, we ride from the mountain base all the way up to the summit and about 20 miles into the woods. Think were going to plan a trip to ANF and Majestic, we ride rallies at Powerline park St. Clairsville Ohio, Wellsville "Forbidden Zone" Ohio and many more local spts that are for the smaller groups of us.

Bryan05,

Have heard of The Cove (thanks to Tater for the link) but haven't been there yet. Where we ride at my Dad's place in Cumberland, MD is basically a mountain of rocks. We have a 6 mile GNCC-style loop and there are logging trails on the adjacent property owned by the concrete company. It's fun riding but after the 100th lap it starts getting routine. I'll check out the Paragona and Tower City links; thanks for sending them.

Rebel,

Powerline Park is awesome and a stop on the GNCC schedule. What's their deal for riding there ($$$, authorization, web link, etc.)??? Thanks for any info you have.

JonnyHighside, I would like to check it out.

We ride at Greenridge state park its 20 miles before Cumberland.on 68.
$15 a year permit. they have camping nad you can ride at night.!

The atv loop is 18 miles long but they have lots of other old trails to ride.

I never heard of this place in Garett county, we go there sometimes, Deep creek, and Swallow falls mostly.

let us know how it is....

The Cove is pretty cool, rocky, they have a gun range off the trail.!

and nice lakes there too.

here is a pic of the Cove at Gore Mt.

TrailLeader,

Plan on going this weekend, with camera in hand. Went there for the first time last weekend to sign up but without the quads. I'm pretty stoked to check it out and I know a bunch of locals who have been riding there for years and love it.
