This may sound stupid but I am having one heck of a time gluing a grip on my CB750. I have new stock 1975 grips and I just can't find anything that will hold the throttle grip on. On the 1975 Honda CB750 the throttle is very stiff due to the return spring. I have removed the spring and the throttle is very smooth and easy to turn. When I put the stock return spring back on it is very stiff. I have tried the stock grip glue and weatherstrip adhesive and let it dry 24 hours but after riding for a while the throttle grip comes loose and starts to slip. I know it is because of the stiff throttle but there has to be something that will hold it. Any suggestions?

Hair spray. Rough up the throttle pipe with 80 grit, liberally spray inside the grip, slide it on and let dry. Hair spray softens (melts) the rubber and once dry you'll have to cut it off. PJ and 3m also make a grip adhesive that works but the hair spray works better.

I use spray paint on my atvs. Not sure how it would be on a twist throttle.Last time I changed grip on my bike,I used grip glue, and lots of it,cause I was having trouble sliding on all the way, used glue as lube.It never sliped, but when time comes to change grips, will be pain in the ass to change,on throttle side.

I tried the Hair Spray and it did not hold. Keep in mind I am cleaning the throttle tube and the inside off the grip with Acetone before every attempt. The Acetone cleans it up very good and removes all traces of anything I have tried. I am about to try Gorilla Glue and hope for the best. The Grips I am using are new Honda Factory type for the 1975 CB750. They are not real comfortable but I am trying to keep the bike 100% stock. If the Gorilla Glue does not work I may just take the bike to the Dealer and buy different Grips and let them install them. They said it would run $40. This is driving me crazy. I have taken apart the entire engine and transmission and rebuilt it with no problems and I can't glue on a stupid Hand Grip.

Maybe your cleaning the throttle tube to well? When I change grips I don't get 100% of the old rubber or glue off. I don't leave large chunks either by any means, but maybe just enough for the Hair Spray to adhere to and keep the grip from slipping.
Have you tried what Rick mentioned and rough the tube up with 80 grit paper? Then maybe randomly spot it with tiny drops of your gorilla glue. Let that dry then try re-installing the grips again with grip glue or Hair Spray. Might give the grip something to bite to other than a perfectly smooth tube? Very thin wire ties work well too, but would look like crap on a non motocross type application.

Well I tried the Gorilla Glue and it worked well. Actually to well. I probably used to much and now the throttle is a little bound up and it won't snap back to the idle position like it is supposed to. I can ride it though. I just ordered a new throttle tube and grip from Honda. It cost $30 with shipping. I am going to use the Gorilla Glue and glue the grip on to the tube before I put the assembly on the handle bars. I am pretty sure that will solve the problem. What a pain in the arse for just a hand grip.
