Loud noise - rear brake rattling/ chatter

rear Brake rattle ... ?
I grab the rear brake, and there’s a rattling noise coming from that area.
We did a 131 miles today and when I grab the rear brake, it makes noise.??

A lot of these recent questions are answered if you search. The rincon rear brake is on the driveshaft and not at the wheels. The noise can be from a couple places.

  • If yours has a riveted floating disk, the rivets could be worn or loose.
  • You might have a rock trapped by the disk.
  • If the disk is good, it may just be normal. When you lock the disk up, the rear wheels can rack back and forth at the hub splines. I try not to lock my rear brakes unless I really need to. Since the disk is on the DS, everything between the DS and rear wheels, that has any slack (wear), gets hammered. It put needless stress on the DS splines and the wheel hub splines when you lock the rear brake up.
The central DS disk has advantages and disadvantages.

Thanks CD..!
I know I could have searched it, but we’re at camp and just got phone.
Riding again today
It doesn’t happen, if I’m rear braking with a little bit of throttle.
My buddy also said a stone or rock in there.
I use the fronts a lot , only hard stops I use both front and rear.

My rear brakes did this.
I removed the brake pads and ground an angle on both ends( short ends) of the pads.
Stopped doing this.

The riveted rotor is better until the rivets loosen. Mine have not.
