Last minute trip to Hatfield McCoy

I have a business trip in the Carolinas next week, so I decided to take a couple days to ride HM trails. I'll be there Sunday night and then ride all day Monday and Tuesday.

I've never been there. There is a ton of information on the internet, but none overly specific. I've called a few places and the best information I found came from Jeremy at VV mapping. He is a great guy that sells digital trail maps for your GPS. And he knows the area pretty well.

I am planning to ride Rockhouse on Monday then Pocahontas, Indian Ridge, or Pinnacle Creek on Tuesday.

I'll be riding alone, unless anyone here can make the trip.....Any advice?

Hey Runner,
I haven't checked in for a few weeks and just saw you were going to HM. How was the ride? I don't think I would have the nerve to hit those trails alone. It can be a long walk out if you run into problems. I'm guessing the traffic was a bit light during the week days?

Hatfield McCoy was awesome! I rode 120 miles on day 1. Rockhouse system. Riding up to the rockhouse on trail 40 black (if my memory is right its 40) was the highlight. Then I rode another 75 on day 2 along Pinnacle Creek.
Rockhouse was definitely more fun. I didn't ride the hill on #32 black (again, relying on memory 32). I met a couple guys in town the night before I started out and they told me #32 was pretty tough and one of their guys rolled. I looked at the hill and went back - you do that when you are riding alone - and a few miles later I caught up to another group towing back a brand new 800 scrambler that rolled down 32.
If I lived closer, I'd make another trip there. I'd ride rockhouse again because it was that good. I probably wouldn't do pinnacle creek again.

Great place and great trails. Rincon is the perfect machine for that kind of riding.

Thanks Ultratec. That's my 12yo son. He tagged him last June with a crossbow in Quebec. He was only 200# but had a beautiful pelt. We should be getting the rug back any day.
If anyone is interested in an awesome spring bear hunt, PM me and I'll share the outfitters info. We had 6 hunters and everyone tagged out by the 3rd day. 3 of the bears were over 350#. Pike fishing was pretty awesome also.
We are using the same outfitter for a moose hunt in 2017. I highly recommend him.

Hey Runner,
X2 on Rockhouse. Philcod and I rode it a couple months ago and it was a great time. We heard a couple horror stories about trail 32 (going from memory as well) and decided not to press our luck. The Rincon never fails to impress me where she will go but I'm smart enough to know the limits of my riding skills.....most of the time.
