Just an opinion. The serial number will show that it should have a big block in it. Of course matching numbers will make it way more valuable. That of course is very hard to do. I would get a big block to put back in it. I don't know if you are aware that a big block, small block swap is almost painless. They have the same bell housing and even the motor mounts will line up and bolt in. If you are going to do a frame off restoration put it back as close to stock as possible. It will be way more valuable and a lot more fun when you are done.

Thanks Harley. I tracked down the owner my brother bought it from and he bought it in 1976 from a car lot as is. Car lot is out of business of course. From what I researched so far, this is a short vin and will not tell big or small block and neither does the trim tag. My only hope is that the build sheet is on top of the gas tank, which I believe is gone by looking with an endoscope. We are going to drop the tank this weekend since it's full of rust and had been epoxied.

Two weeks I will go see if the V65 and V45 will start. I'll keep you updated.

Thanks for the info Oilcan.

Plans as of now, I think first will be to get it safe to drive. Then when I do the frame off, it will get fuel injection, vintage ac, maybe some new wheels and a stereo. I'm going to stay close to original and will keep all the original parts.
Very cool, very cool!!!

Yeah the 64 and 67 are the same body style, changed in 68..

HD, the only engine identifier in GM cars up until the mid to late 70's simply denoted the car being a 6 or 8 cylinder. The vin or body tag numbers had no identifier as to what engine the car was factory equipped with. Ford, Mopar, even AMC, did in fact include an identifier in the vin. For instance, take a 67 Ford with vin 7F58Q108990. It would equate to a 1967 (7) Dearborn built (F) Galaxie 500XL (58) 428 4v equipped (Q) car #8989 to roll off the assembly line. (vehicle sequence always starts at 100001 per model year). A W in place of the Q would dictate the car left the factory with a 427 4v. In GM's case, specifically a 67 Corvette with vin #194377C100001 translates to a Chevrolet (1) Corvette Sport Coupe (19437) 1967 model (7) built in Southgate (C) and would be the first 67 Corvette built. Absolutely no way to identify engine by vin, or body tag. Now, being the Corvette was not available with a 6 cyl in 67, let's take a Chevelle vin for difference. A 67 Chevelle 300 2 door with a 6 cyl (no ci identifier) would be 113111 and a V8 model would be 113211. All GM vin's told was 6 or 8 cyl. That said, if you know what to look for on GM high perf cars per specific model, it's telltale. For instance, a (factory) Corvette in 1967 would have a different gauge pack than a small block car. Different differential components, different radiator, battery relocated, different hood, different front springs, a rear sway bar, etc/etc. That's exactly why GM cars can be cloned so easily. In Elwoods case, from what I saw pic wise (privately) I'm betting it was a factory small block car with bits and pieces added over the years for big block apps. If it is indeed found to be a factory 427 Corvette, Elwood fell into a gold mine.........GM 101

Back on Elwood. He called me and asked if I could help him figure this car out and put a buy price on it. I said sure, glad to help. Send me pics and descriptions. First pic he sent was him standing in front of the car in a mesh t-shirt with some kind of fluffy shorts and knee high (what looked to me) silk see through leggings. His description was, and I quote, 1967 Corvette, Armani BullDog Mesh T-Shirt with nipple squeezers, SanSational Llama lined Poofy Shorts, and Victoria's Secret Anorexic knee socks. I said I need a good description of the car and haven't heard back as of yet...

Don't you guys listen to that nonsense. He's still mad about that fiasco he created at the Thailand disco and is probably posting after one too many banana daiquiris while dancing to a Saturday Night Fever album wearing his 1970's shiny silver short shorts again holding a timing light to get the strobe light effect.

Got the rusty fuel tank, rotten carpet and soft top out so far. Besides talking to Rick, I spoke to the one qualified wrench here that I trust and he doesn't do engine rebuilding anymore, so I may be taking a long road trip up north for Rick to go through the engine, Muncie and rear end. Hoping the block just needs a flush, hone and re ring and then just go through the heads. Have a guy that will give me an edelbrock performer intake if Rick thinks that's a better option.

Well no build sheet on the tank. Forgot to add that last time. Finally got a strap wrench on the crank pulley. Pulled the plugs and was able to move it about an inch at a time for four or five times and it stopped. Now I can only move it an inch forward or backwards. The endoscope shows crud on half of each piston except for no 8 which is clean for some reason. Pistons appear to be pop ups as they are raised up in the center. Some people have told me to start it and others say don't. If these pistons are still good, would they run on today's gas? I remember going with my brother in the 80's to the one station that had 100 octane. At least I think it was a 100. Going to get the keys this week and also see if I can get the V65 Magna and V45 Saber to start before auction.

Oh, this is funny. My wife, who complained about having to spend money on this project now wants a big block, big block hood, leather interior and wood steering wheel. She needs to go price these things before she gives me the premature green light. I'm taking it as approved pending funding. Just have to work a ton of overtime now.
