I just put my carb back in after a rebuild and got it running. I haven’t adjusted the carb to run properly yet but after Idling and a few revs and creeping forward for a few minutes the engine and radiator was burning hot the radiator was really dirty. Could it be something else?

Jetting incorrectly is a quick way to burn a hole in the top of the piston. Adjust the a/f screw correctly, get your idle at 1400, and test again. Of course clean the rad, but did it do this prior to removing the carb?

Carb basics then. Make sure your jets are clean, the float moves easily and the needle seats, (No leaking gas when you hold the float up). Start from the factory suggested setting (2 3/8 turns out) . A tach is helpful in setting the RPM. (about $25 on line) Walmart has em for $27.00
