Hi, Thanks in advance for any help with this issue. I have a 2005 Rincon 650. So to start I start the bike with no problems. It idles fine when running after starting it, but when I hit the throttle it does the rev up but doesn't come down stays up high. SO i pull the choke out and put it back in and it runs half decent can put it in gear drive around and put it in neautral idles great until i rev it up in neutral. So took it to a local mechanic got the carb switched out and put a new needle set on the choke. Does anyone have any ideas or need more info??? Thanks

Yes, any vacuum leak can cause a high idle. You also said you switched out the carb. I assume that means a complete carb replacement. If not I would also check the carb slide and it's diaphragm.

Before we changed the carb out I had the same symptoms I'm having now with the new carb. Everything was fully cleaned and serviced and tps was reset and the boot from motor to carb is all good. WE are just scratching our heads right now because everything that would cause this issue is fine. LOL Only thing I'm thinking ( AND would love for some advise on this) is that my thermostat is leaking a little bit of fluid. Would that cause enough air in my system to send it in a high idle when ONLY in neautral reving the bike up but won't let it come back down. Also my mechanic is a buddy of mine so we work together on these things. WE kept it in his HEATED garage overnight, go start it up not acting up at all but havn't had any cold weather to test it right now in the cold. Just shooting every little thing we've encountered trying to find this needle in a hay stack. Thanks

When was the last time you adjusted the valves?

I'm leaning toward the throttle cable bind that you earlier suggested HD... if it was there b4 you changed the carb... Your water circuit has nothing to do with engine RPM...As well I'm confused by your comment "Put a needle set on the choke"

Hi I never adjusted the valves since I've owned the bike (3 years) and the needle set I'm talking about is at the end of the choke cable that goes in the carb. It's actually called a valve starter sorry. It was really worn out so we just to a shot and got one but didn't change anything. I was thinking the same thing about the throttle cable but it is awesome shape and moves perfect with no sticking. What about the leak in my thermostat I mentioned before? Would that let in enough air to mess things up?

I meant 4 wheeler lol. So everything seems like it should be the throttle cable. My only concern is when it sits in a heated garage it doesn't want to act up if it's stored like usual in my shed in the cold it will do the high idle?? Any ideas on that?

I still would check the throttle cable. It may be moving free but could be adjusted a little tight. Make sure it has a little play in it.

I would start with the throttle cable where it attaches to the carb.
If the throttle cable is binding it will not allow the carb. butter fly to return to the idle position.
Remove the plastic cover and check if the throttle cable is returning to the throttle stop when it idles high.
If it's not returning to the throttle stop you have a throttle cable problem.
In this picture the plastic cover is removed.

Ok so in a heated garage for 3 days not an issue at all. Starts runs idles fine reving it up and down in neautral. So I took it back to my house on my trailer, start it up next evening and is running a high idle and will not come down at all? I'm so confused with this now. LOL would condensation on the throttle cable cause it and when it's in my shed it's freezing up. And also I have CODE 9 showing up now!!!!!

A new oem carb comes with the choke end/valve starter, why get a seperate one? I am leaning in agreement with the throttle cable, but what type of carb was swapped? New carb, used carb, oem, ebay?

I had a used one put in off a perfect running rincon 650. And yes I checked the cable when the rinny was in the heat ed garage but dont have enough daylight to check in the cold until Friday when I'm off work. But I ordered the cable anyways to eliminate that as a problem for the 20$ it's only going to cost.
