Thanks JeffinTD, I have thermal meter with a long ball type wire probe that I could tape to the ECM to monitor the temperature while I'm riding. I just need to find where the ECM is located. LOL ! I know its about to quit whenever the MPH starts to jump around from 0 to the teens to 99. It only happen after its been running for 30 minutes or so and gets hot.Often when these quit when hot, the fuel filter sock is partly obstructed leading the fuel pump to shut down, but the dash freaking out doesn’t make sense with that problem. Maybe bad ground, or a temperature related ECM problem?
Ok ,I had a 2016 do the same thing . There is a rubber heat sheild that is supposed to be tucked under the PCM . Mine was not after placing the sheild properly according to the service manual the problems quit. I bought another Rincon in 2018 and the sheild was installed improper changed it no problemsI bought a 2021 Honda Rincon about 2 years ago.
I noticed ever since I bought it 2 years ago, when it gets hot, the Rincon will quit. When I try to restart immediately, the speedometer will flash different speeds up to 99 MPH, even thought the Rincon is not moving. I just let it rest for 30 minutes or so, then it runs for a while before quitting.
There's no indication light showing that it has over-heated.
I had my phone with me yesterday and recorded a video of it.
Overheat video
Any suggestions on what to check or replace?
I have a voltage meter in the cigarette lighter plug, and its showing 12.5V to 13.5V when this happens, so I don't think its low voltage or a regulator issue. I wonder if the computer "brain" is located in the speedometer area?
Thanks,
Bob
