So I bought a 2003 rincon 650, everything is super nice on the bike. The previous owner put new axles all around new shocks, plastics, new tires & rims, new stock muffler 3 inch lift! all with in 2 months of selling it. When I bought the bike I bought it cheap because it would only go into drive after shifting from neutral to drive many many times, but it would always go into reverse and run fine in reverse. So I took it to the Honda dealership had them change the oil, filter, check the valve body and clean it out, also replaced 1 of the solenoids. still the same results, only reverse no drive. Right now its in "safe mode" and will go into gear because its in 2nd but that is it. I want to make this bike 100% operational so any help on this project will be much appreciated. If I cant get it fixed I may part it out and try to make some money.

Oil level is fine unscrewed just about 1/8th of an inch above full.
Ok good. Now I would go and make sure all the connectors to the ECM and everything are clean and don't have dirt and water in them.

If it is in second it is in limp mode. The shift solenoids are likely not working correctly. Did Honda retrieve any codes stored. When in limp mode the computer should store a fault.

As a long shot, see if the owner or the shop placed the tranny in limp mode using the bypass screw. The shop manual describes the procedure and it will stay in second until the screw is manually backed out. If you have no manual you need one.

I also see you have no display...jeez dude you are performing surgery blind. The display would probably flash the diagnostic code telling you what to check first.

I ordered a pressure test fitting, should be here today, planned on testing from the port speed as the recommended location, have a manual. I replaced A and B solenoids but bot the linear solenoid. I just purchased two of these 05 650 for an extremely reasonable price the first one required a cam chain tensioner I'm thinking this one might be the pump or pump o rings. I was surprised to see the esp indicator show all positions so I believe the shift sensor is correct. Thanks for the reply I will most likely be looking for 2nd opinions as I proceed ..... replaced both carbs, oil and filters first thing both run well no noises. Wro

if this is the correct location for oil pressure, other than where the temp sensor is then I currently am pushing a big Zero for oil pressure, there is no chain rstgle or other noise so I'm assuming teardown a d replace the pump and seals. WRO THZNX FOR THE INPUT!!

yes, but regardless I will have to open the front case. haven't looked into that does the fron dif have to be moved and the front drive popped off?
Im not sure of the exact procedure, I haven't done one. But since you have a service manual, it will detail it, step by step. It will also tell you where you start, starting from having no oil pressure.
