well ive rode the trails up there and its great!!!!! if ya ever get over to northern Minnesota , there is 120 miles of trail up in the iron range, GILBERT, EVELITH,VIRGINIA + THE DNR BOUGHT A OLD IRON MINE in gilbert WITCH IS OPEN YEAR ROUND TO ATV, OHV , MOTORCYCLES, right now its 1200 acres and they are talking about adding 1800 more acres, my friends & i went in november and it was unbeliveable, they have everything rocks, mud, hills, trails, race tracks . it was worth the trip, and planning to go back in april.
Let me know when you boys are going to the OHV park in Gilbert again, I live seven minutes from it. Rumor is true, they will be add at least 2K acres, and possibly another 3600 if they can swing a deal with another mine. Caz
I'm in south-central MN. There is only a gravel pit open to the public. They require DNR reg and a hemet. There is also a private party that charges ~$40/day. Many acres of hills and mud. I have not been there but my friends tell me it is a lot of fun.
I hear there are some great trails up on the iron range. I would like to get up there this summer.
Hey, guys, I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to put out some info on a new trail opening in North Central Wisconsin. The Oneida County ATV Association just opened a new trail that is located 5 miles south of Rhinelander and connects with the Lincoln County and Langlade County Trails. This three county system now has over 200 miles of trails and is located only 40 min. north of Wausau, WI. It has approximately six different access points with parking areas and very well marked trails. Maps are available at most taverns and gas stations along the trails. The Harrison Hills ATV Club has a clubhouse that is open to all. (Restrooms, a firepit, indoor woodstove, near a small lake) There is no charge for access although the trail maps may cost you a buck or two. The trails are open for most of the year including though the winter months when most trails up here are only open to snowmobiles. If anyone would like any more info, please send me a PM and I can e-mail you any directions, a map, etc...
I live in Eau Claire, WI and just recently purchased my friends 2003 Rincon. So we have been going pretty much every weekend since then. Clark County has some nice trails. Does anyone else know of any good ones in Wisconsin? There has to be some nice ones up near Hayward, Bayfield, etc.
I ride just north of Birchwood , well north of the Tuscobia trail and its real nice, ive also rode up by Hayward, we dropped off by the casino out of Hayward and went north about 30 miles & back ,pretty nice. ill try to put a map in the next message.
but anyway go to watva.com for most trail info in wisconsin
jkiter & BADMOTO,
I know you guys are "out west", but if you want to ride some great trails try the Iron County system. This includes Park Falls, Mercer, Hurley, and all points in between. The Hurley area caters to atv's and there are over 200 miles of trails and lots of great places to stop and lots of great scenery, too. There are also trails north of Merrill WI off of Highway 17 in the Parish/Gleason area. The trail system covers three countys and has close to 200 miles of trails. Good ridin'!
I don't think there are any on line. At least I haven't found one. If you call the Hurley Chamber of Commerce they will mail you one. And just a quick p.s.....these trails also connect to the system in the UP so there are tons of trails. We have riden to Lake Goegebic, Lake Superior, Copper Peak, & Black River Harbor just to name a few places. The trail system is not marked as well in Michigan so I would suggest finding someone to go with who knows their way around. Also a good part of the Wis trails are open in the Winter. There is a big snowmobile ride in December called the Red Light Ralley which will be mostly ATV's if there isn't snow...it is a real good time.
The picture below is of the Montreal River Gorge from a ride this last August.
