This weekend, a friend and I enjoyed a great ATV trail ride/camping trip. We have been going to the same atv friendly campground for a few years now and always set up tents for sleeping. We got to talking about purchasing a used 14-16 foot enclosed trailer with a rear fold down ramp to haul two ATVs. We would then fit the trailer with some windows, lights, maybe an awning on the side to use it as an RV to stay in. We thought all of the electrical accessories could be wired to one panel that could be just "plugged in" to a generator or a campsite service for easy setup. I'm just wondering if anyone else has tackled a project like this? I'd like to see some of the details it took to make your setup. I'm thinking I could maybe find a used trailer for around $2000. This will not be a fancy setup but functional in an effort to keep costs low. Thank you.

Depending on how soon you want it, I would just search CL in your area for a while and I bet you'll be able to find a used enclosed that someone else toyhaulerized that will be part way or have most of what you want. I have done similar projects in the past and the labor, time and costs really add up to start from scratch. Or, If you can locate a no title or damaged complete travel trailer cheap, it would make a great donor for most of the stuff you need.

I wouldn't get to elaborate with building some type of "living quarters". I want to keep it functional for hauling for other uses as well.

I have had one for about 5 years and really enjoy having it. I have added a few shelves, bike chaulks, E-track tie down points and some carpets. I use it for rafting, hauling the bikes on trips, and of course the quads. Most of the time I leave the coolers, BBQ, firewood, chairs, tents and some other essentials in it all of the time. Some trips, we will just pull it with the bikes and sleep in it, just on the floor. We just treat it like a big tent, still cooking outside and using the campgrounds shower and such.
It is a 14' x 7' with a 3 foot v-nose, makes it 17' 4" from the tip of the nose to the back door, internal measurement.
I will add a few pics of some of the uses :)

This is pretty much what I have in mind. Did you purchase your trailer new? Ever consider adding some side windows?

I bought it used, a year old when I got it. I have thought about putting a window in. I have looked on some of the classified websites for one, if someone has one at a decent price, i'll put one in, they are easy to do.
My friends borrow it when they move and stuff as well, so its good to be able to have an 'empty box' once in a while. I also got the smallest one I could, for what I needed. I have a big driveway and yard, but to big of one would take up valuble space. My trailer, with the motorhome, is just over 40'.

There is a channel on YouTube called Aultimate Outdoors and he just bought a trailer to do exactly what you described and he is documenting the build process. I'm at the office so can't link you directly to his channel at the moment.
