to remove the stock air filter and replace with k&n i have slid the foam filter off the metal screen and do not know how to remove the metal screen to get the k&n on. instructions please as i see many of you have already done this mod.
has any body put picks in their tires for winter riding and if you have, what have you done and how? how many? pattern? bearclaws have the groove in the tread and do the picks stick out above the groove ??

You do not use the metal screen in the K&N. It is ready to install as is.

What? Did you loosen the clamp? If so, the foam filter and screen should both come out at the same time. The metal screen filter is tightly packed inside the foam filter.

The K&N goes on all by itself.

loosened the clamp and slid it up out of the way, then i slid the foam filter off the back of the metal canister and then tried to remove the metal canister and it would not budge, if there is nothing else holding it must be really stuck to the rubber?????

That one clamp is all that holds it on... the foam filter and screen core are suppose to come off as a unit.

thanks guys had to trim the airbox a bit but it is in now
