Warn or ramsey

I have been looking at winches and don't know which one to get. What are the pros and cons of the 2500lb winches or would it best to get 3000lb? Also where is the cheapest place to buy these?

This is what I have found
aluminum producs has Ramsey 2500# Remote Control Winch
$306

rocky mountain has warn 2.5ci
$280

The warn 3000 reels in faster then Ramsey but uses more power. Ramsey unspools faster then the warn winch. Warn has a cable remote Ramsey has wireless remote. Ramsey weights 2lbs more. So all in all they are both great but Ramsey is a bit cheaper to buy so that is the one I will get when I have the wife's permission.

If you hurry and buy a Ramsey I think they still have a $25 rebate till year end. I bought mine off E-bay "2500# wireless" for $295 shipped, fairlead included. Sent in my invoice to Ramsey and got my $25 rebate in about 2 weeks. Still haven't installed yet but plan to this coming weekend.

I got a Ramsey off EBay $300 and change and love it. I still have not seen the rebate, and it has been almost three months. It is very light and I do not even notice it being on the front end. They are a major pain in the a$$ to install though. To find a spot for all the components, you must be creative and resourceful. As for the differance between the 2500 and 3000 lb. units...it makes me wonder if it is mostly marketing hype. Look at the spec's for both....they BOTH weigh the same, have the same HP rating and the same gear ratio...So how could one pull more.....Maybe it will just withstand more before it breaks because of a design change.

I have the Ramsey 3000 on my Rincon with the wireless remote and love it. I won't own another Warn product because of the lame-ass way they market their stuff. What that means is they absolutely WILL NOT sell you the custom switchgear for a particular quad separately from a winch purpose... so if you plan to move the winch to another machine in the future, you'll have to rig your own switch.

What were you trying to buy? Just about every part is available separately. A quick look at Dennis Kirk for example shows the switch, contactor, and remote all available separately. I have seen other sites listing every part down to the gears inside.

RobG...I too love the wireless remote and I crack-up reading the disclamers Warn issues in regards to using this system on their products. I wonder though, what is the battery life on the remote? I have it on my "To Do" list to purchase a spare, I just have'nt yet.

I looked at thier site, but didn't see the deal. Where did you find out about it? That seems like a pretty good deal, and if I don't get one for Christmas from the wife, I think I'm willing to part with my cash for that price.

I just bought a Warn 2.5ci. I looked at the Ramsey online, but every one around here has Warn winches on their atv's. So I too went the Warn route. Here is a good deal on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2365662092&category=3186

Just check his other items he is selling often. He will post more.

Every thing you need, winch, mini rocker switch, roller farlead, mounting kit and free shipping for $349.00. I bought one the other day, can't wait until it arrives.

Hey folks I thought I would chim in on this one. This is the best "package Deal" I have found for a ramsey 2500. Take a look let me know what you think. I have seen their skid plates up close and they seem real nice!

Hi Mike! One thing you might want to consider is the power. I went with the Warn 3.0 from Aluminum Products, along with their "hook holster skid plate". It may be a little more expensive, but it really is pretty easy to install. I have yet to use the 3.0 in a serious situation, but I have an 8,000 lb on my jeep and have used it several times. I don't think you have to worry too much about "over powering", but you can always be under powered. If your wheels get stuck in mud and they from a suction, 3.0 may not even be enough. If your out there alone, every little bit helps.

If your gonna mount it fixed under the front end, you may want to consider how it's sealed. I have a Ramsey 3000 wireless, however I have it mounted so I can move it from the front to the rear and stow it high up away from water. The Warn is supposed to be sealed better against water intrusion. Just my two cents

I have had the Ramsey 2500 wireless for about a year now and have had the contactor fail. Ramsey took care of it more promptly than I would have ever expected. I do a lot of deep water and have had no problems yet, other than the contactor (the new contactor seems to have a different gasket??).

Popapi, I don't suggest the Ramsey is prone to water intrusion......just that Warn states their's is sealed better than all others. I have had no problems with my Ramsey, but I do try to keep it out of the water as much as possible and I keep it lubed well.
