I just bought a new '07 Rincon. I am wanting to know all of the problems people have had with theirs & what makes it a problem for them. This way I can make a good plan for which modifications I want to do for my riding style. The areas I am mainly looking for are:

Power Problems & Fixes
Handling Problems & Fixes
Winch Problems & Fixes
Gearing Problems & Fixes

I plan on using my Rincon for everything from mud running to fast sport riding.

Thanks to all who respond!!

Ok let me start off my saying anything I put here is minimal compared to other Brands models I have read up on.

Power:

Plenty of power for trail riding. Never been a problem. I can leave the Popo's behind. In the mud it’s another story. Low end is decent but not what a belt drive and low gear will give you. You can add a pipe, programmer, and filter for around 4 to 6 hundred depending on what you pick out. That gives you about 8hp more. Remember, you still do not have a low gear.

Handling: No problems that I have seen.

Winch: I have Warn XT on an AP winch mount, no problems so far.

Gearing:

I wish this thing had a park position to select. My e-brake sucks and the foot break is worthless. The hand break will hold it from rolling on flat ground but I do not know if I would trust it on a mountain hill angle hold. As for the Gear's most reliable gears on the market but could use a 4 or 5 speed tranny.

Other:

My HUD Unit screen gets little water drops in it. The dealer ordered me another under warranty with no questions asked.

The seat latch had to be adjusted. It was not holding the seat in place when I picked it up.

Springs are great for one rider. A bit soft if doubling up for an extend period of time.

Stock tires are only food for riding around the house or in the sand.

No stock Bumpers!!!

Good mods:

1. Guru front and rear bumpers.
2. FMF exhaust- no packing, last forever.
3. Programmer for the FI, you will run lean with the FMF.
4. A dry storage box front or rear.
5. Tire's: Either BigHorn or XTR's
6. Guru hitch if you need to pull anything.

Hope this helps.

Ride Red or Die Trying!!! Here's some pics to give you ideas. Good luck and congrats on your Rincon!!!

It's killing me right now. I have had no time to clean it up since the end of hunting season. You saw the FMF install post and thats what it looked like after I washed all the mud off of it. I have group rides planned for the seceond half of the month so I don't know if I want to spend the 3 hours to clean it up like I did in those pic's or not.

Jonathan has some good points. I agree on his assessment of mudding ability and would add that a lower gear would make technical trails easier and safer.

My problems. The seat is tricky to get on, piss and moan I know, but I have owned other Hondas that weren't. Valve adjustment requires a lot of plastic removal, but is straight forward. The water pump weep line needs to be replaced/modified, or your water pump will be toast soon. They are hard on front end parts, as all quads are, watch the upper front a arm bushings, they will get play first. I am stock so mods are not included in my post. The front springs are a little weak and the front dampening sucks with some miles, the rear end is fine for suspension though.....random thoughts in no order.

Most inportant though is they are a complicated machine and many machanics are not up to the task. Learn how to fix your own or marry a good mechanic.

I have a 07 camo rincon. These are the problems I have had with mine.

1.Rear Pinion bearing and seal went out. - Dealer didn't have enought oil in the diff and I rode to far before finding this site. After reading info from this site I checked mine and it didn't have much at all in it. I filled it up and it started leaking, the pinion bearing was gone which got the seal.

2.Camo started peeling. - always washed with a reg. water hose? just bubbled up and came off. After much hell raising and a couple of months dealer replaced.

3. Front seal on the crankcase were the front driveshaft hooks up has started leaking. - don't no y it would fail so soon?

4. Rear Foot Brake barely works? The lever on the bars works fine? not sure whats up with that?

Power Mods (helped but still not enough)
HMF Swamp series with HMF FI optimizer
Uni air filter

Handling
It handles great, through the woods most bikes will have a hard time keeping up. The shocks and springs could use some help.
I am fixin to try some small body al racing shocks with hypercoil springs, I think this will be a big improvement. I should be able to give it alittle lift for muddin by crankin down on the coil overs, or let it down to stock or lower for high speed riding.

Winch
Get a good winch like a warn or some other good brand and be done with it. I know some that have had success with cheap winches and some didnt get one pull out of them.

Gearing
There are some reductions out there, but I don't know anyone that has one? I can't provide any input on that.

They are all like that. I complained about it too. I have a Honda 300 also and all I used on that machine was the foot break. The breaks lasted forever. I think on that model the foot break worked both my front and rear breaks. Something to do with the all-wheel-drive system. Just use the hand breaks. I have no idea why they even included a foot break except for some small breaking for hills to use it in conjuction with the front breaks.

I would say axels and wheel bearing have gave me the most trouble... but i play in the mud alot.. im VERY hard on it... mine dont look like a cleaned up vett like most of these guys.... i beet only 3% of the guys on this form ride like me..

i would say the high lifter springs were the best investment for me, and full skids...

I dont play in the mud a lot , but I ride in the Enduro races.

So problems - front A- arm plastic, original tie rods are very flimsy, original tires are very bed, ariginal springs are too soft for jumps

My modifications for 2005 Honda Rincon 650 -
ELKA Suspension Shocks ( best modification) , HMF Penland Pro exhaust with HMF Jets, Dynatek CDI, American Star Auto Tie rod set (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ASR-Honda-650-Rincon-Pro-Racer-Tie-Rods-W-Ends_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43974QQihZ016QQitemZ260195943646QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW ), Innova Mud Gear tires, UFO hand- guards, Venom 3000 LBS winch and full skid plate ( later I will add picture, How I made my self skid plate with foot step guards here is link where is something like that on yamaha http://www.salmet.lv/ )

The front CV boots can be damaged even with after market stick guards installed. So don't go flying into wood piles thinking your safe from damage. The Idle valve sticks in cold weather. So learn how to fix it in the field. No zerk fittings mean future problems. Add zerks where needed or don't submarine the suspension if you want it to last. You need to be aware of the bank angle sensor will shut the machine off if you tilt it 70 degrees. Happened to me once. Don't climb steep inclines when really low on gas like when the indicator blinks because the fuel system needs constant pressure to the injector. Most of all have fun and be careful.

I think I read in the manual that the foot break is only 80% or some less % and the hand rear break is the full rear break. I think Honda did this on purpose it to me, and is the equivalent to the engine break on going down hill.

No major problems here. It is like any other machine, take care of it and it will take care of you. As far as rear foot brake pedal is concerned, I do believe you can adjust the foot pedal push rod to get better braking. Since you have an 07 model, take the IACV apart and clean it really good. It will stick on you and cause high idle problems

No major problems.
Had to have my shifter adjusted is the only dealer performed repair.
Complaints:
Stock tires suck.
Not much engine braking.
Lack of low gear.
Seat is a pain in the butt to put on.

Even with these problems, it is still the best all around machine out there!

I had to replace my water pump. The seals were leaking....supposedly a common problem on the 05's. Getting a consistant good idle has been a chore (although it's better now thanks to VERY helpfull PM from RINCON RIDERS member) Tranny has been finicky...better with Rotella but still not perfect---still not sure it's that much better than a cvt setup.....definatly not as easy to fix if it bites the big one. I would love to have 5 gears in the tranny. One low gear and one more gear on the big end. That and some more hop up parts for the mill from the mainstream (full exhaust hello?)
I hate to sound like I'm beating the crap out of it....it is a pretty good bike and all--but you asked. I got mine at an insurance auction for 400 bucks with 60 hrs on it so for the price I really can't argue....but MAN a 5 speed tranny would be swweeeet!
