No Power.

I'm having a problem with my '03 Rincon. What it does is run fine but then fall flat, no power. It won't shift into third gear automatically, because of the lack of speed, and has zero lowend power. It won't even spin it's tires on loose dirt.

Sometimes with will start and run great but you'll be running along and let off the throddle and then get back on it and nothing, it's like a light switch was turned off. It will idle fine and move but with no power. Some times I can get it to work correctly by shuting it down and "resetting" the computer but that only works once in a while.

It seems to act up more after playing in water but I have checked and regreased all my connections and it will still do it. It will do it when it is cold or when it is hot, it's completely random in nature.

I hate to say it but it started after I installed my Dynstek ignition system, I uninstalled it and the Rinnie ran good but now it is starting to act up again. I'm thinking my brain box was damaged by the Dynatek system or that it is simply going out.

I'm hoping that some of you can give me any ideas about what could be the problem before a buy a new brain box. Please help!

KOIV,

I have removed the DynaTek box and it will run great but then out of the blue fall on it's face. It will be running strong, you let off the gas and then get back on it and it is dead. Ther motor is running but you have no power.

I never had this power until I installed the DynaTek box and now it sucks. It is a very intermittent problem. It works great when you first start it up and go but as the day goes on you start to have more and more issues until it is flat all the time.

RyansRinny,

It has done it when cold but not too often.

KOIV,

I had the Powernow Carb insert in long before this problem came about. The only thing that I had did to the machine was the DynaTek module. The minute we installed it it fell on it's face. On pavement it would get outrun by my 5 year olds TRX 70! We tried it out in the woods after "resetting" the computer and it still did it. We then removed the DynaTek module and it seemed to run like it should, the longer you rode it the more issues seemed to appear.

The problem with this is that sometimes the Rinny will run like a raped ape but then it will fall on it's face and have no power. With that said, it does run and idle nicely but once you give it gas to try and move, and it will, it is dead, it is slow to get up to any speed and will only run at about 26-30 mph. This won't even allow the machine to shift into 3rd gear in auto mode, if I put it in ESP mode, I can get it into 3rd gear and run about 36-38 mph before it tops out.

It is a very frustrating problem.

Oops, I run the stock jetting with the stock air filter. The only "jetting" i've done to it was to cure the stalling issue, otherwise it is stock from the factory.

Koiv,

Thanks, that is what we are leaning towards but at $500 for a new brain box I am trying to explore everything else first.

Muddster,

Thanks for the information. I'm going to "disect" my electrical tonight and check every connection and spice to ensure that they are good.

Thanks again.

UPDATE!

I checked all my connections and found water in one and corrosion in another so I cleaned them up and filled every connection on the machine wiht dielectric grease. I haven't been ably to test it yet (the reason for the no).

I cn't simply run it out of my house so until I can get it out of town I won't know for sure it is it working correctly. At this time I'm waiting on front brake parts before I can ride it anyway.

The connection with water in it was a large white connector located behind the motor right behind the pull starter, no corrosion just water.

The connector with corrosion in it was a small two wire connector located on the right side of the bike behind the radiator on the inside of the frame. There are two connectors on the right side that are easy to see (with the mud fender removed) this connector is tucked right behind a vertical frame support infront of those two connectors, you can't even see it with out really looking. I literally found it on accident. This connector was totally corroded.

I don't know what either of these connectors do, haven't bothered to look them up in the shop manual, but water and corrosion can't be good for them.

***UPDATE***

The Rincon would appear to be FIXED! I was able to ride it for the first time over the long weekend and it worked GREAT!

I would like to thank all of you for your help in figuring this out but I would really thank XCRacer416 for his assistance.

This site is great!

Note for others, check your carb for dirt!

Again thank you all!
